Happy 4 weeks Bailey Victoria

Today marks 4 weeks to the day that little Bailey was born!

She clearly looks excited about being 4 weeks old :)

Not much has happened this week, which has been kind of nice. We have just been able to relax and enjoy Bailey. Unfortunately she was a bit fussy for 2 days and I thought my days with an easy baby were over. She is back to herself now so I think it might have been the yummy enchiladas we had for dinner one night....guess I have to give those up for now. We are in the process of getting ready for my brothers wedding weekend in Petaluma, CA. I am excited to see family and friends but also a bit nervous to travel with Bailey so soon. I am sure it will all work out but can't help feeling a bit stressed about the whole ordeal. Wish us luck!

Our new favorite activity...

Wes getting Bailey strapped in for our nightly walk

She looks a bit uncomfortable but she actually seems to really like our walks just as much as we do.

Our walks not only get us out of the house as a family but it is a time for Wes and I to enjoy each other without having to completely tend to Bailey. I find the walks very refreshing and they always put me in a good mood. I am not excited for it to be cold and snowy because that means no walks for us :(. So we will enjoy the nice weather while we can.

Here is Bailey practicing being on her tummy...

And one last picture of our baby girl...

As you can see I have had fun today playing with some of my pictures. Bailey is swinging soundly in her swing so I got a few extra minutes to play around.

Update at 3 weeks!

Bailey is now 3 weeks old!!

My mom's 65th birthday was on the 18th and I made my yearly pork chop spaghetti dinner. Pork chop spaghetti was my favorite dinner my mom made and usually had her make it for me on my birthday. So ever since I moved to Reno, I have been making it on her birthday. Pete came over and we had a nice visit and even watched an episode of the Munsters my mom was in...of course Bailey and her cuteness distracted us from watching it all, I don't think mom would mind. :) Happy Birthday Mom!

Wes' parents were here for a few days which was very nice! I am so glad they were able to spend some time with their granddaughter as well as us. I hope we get to see them again soon.

This week we also asked Pete and Jen to be Bailey's Godparents. Pete is finally an uncle and is always over here spending time with Bailey so it was an obvious choice. He completely adores her, it is way too cute. She is so lucky to have him in her life!

We also asked my friend Jen who I have been best friends with since Freshman year of high school when she tripped and took me down with her during a cross country practice. I believe it was on the Chandler loop, I could be wrong though. In high school Jen was more than a best friend, she was like a sister and her parents were 2nd parents to me. She has always been there for me when I needed her and continues to be a huge support in my life and now Bailey's.
This is how we asked them....

Oh...and they both said yes :) We will baptize her in the Spring at St. Charles when I am on break.

Bailey lost her umbilical cord so we got to give her her first bath!! Yay!
She actually REALLY enjoyed it. She didn't cry until when we were about done washing her hair and she was out of the warm water...poor girl was cold.

And here are some cute pictures of the week! As you can see I had a hard time narrowing them down :)

Bailey got weighed today at the doctors and she is FINALLY above her birth weight. She is now 7 pounds 5 ounces. :)

A week in review....Bailey's 2nd week

Happy 2 weeks to our precious baby girl! I still need to fix the blocks so when you read weeks, it doesn't look like w_e_s, soon enough.

This week has been a lot easier for the most part and even more jam packed with excitement. Here are some of the highlights from this week:

Pops and Nana's visit
(the names they picked to be called :) )
My dad and Pam flew out for the day to spend with us and little miss Bailey. It was great having them spend some time with her before my brothers wedding in a couple weeks. Here are some pictures from their visit.

Wes and Bailey tried out the play mat from Uncle Spidey when they were here...

Doctor updates
Bailey gained about 6 ounces in 2 days after we got the breast feeding down. So that was great to hear. Bailey and I went in yesterday for her 2 week check up without Wes, let me just say, I give lots of respect to all the single parents because that was hard work! It took me a long time to get me and her both ready. Once I finally found an outfit I felt comfortable in and got her washed up and changed, I was proud we would be early getting out the door easily...boy was I wrong. While I was getting ready I could tell she wasn't feeling so hot, but after getting her ready she looked much better. I had her in my arms and said "aw Bailey you feel better now?" and her answer was puking all over me and her cute little purple outfit (maybe she just takes after her Grandma Vick and hates purple). I just looked down in disbelief that this was actually happening. Here's her first puking episode...many more to come in her future.I had about 5-10 min to get out the door before I was actually LATE (I hate being late...need to be early to pretty much everything). I was able to get her and I both cleaned up and changed and out the door in time to get to the doctors a few minutes early. Of course this had to happen the first day taking her out by myself.

The doctors went well. She would have probably weighed her birth weight, but from the puking right before and almost peeing all over the doctor before she got weighed, she was a bit under. With that happening she still weighed 11 ounces more than last time (5 days prior), so gaining about a pound in a week! I am so happy she is finally gaining weight. Since she DIDN'T weigh her birth weight (she DID weigh more than what she did when we left hospital), her doc wants to see her next week to check her weight. She also grew about a half inch taller since birth. Everything else looks great she said.

Mommy update
So last Wednesday I woke up and noticed I was bleeding/oozing from my incision and freaked out. I called the after hours doctor and they said to cover it with gauze and call the doctors when they opened. We ended up able to get in right after Bailey's appointment which was good. She said it looked infected, gave me antibiotics and a dressings for Wes to change daily. I was hurting so bad, it was hard to walk so Wes put me on bed rest for the day. We went back two days later and saw a different doctor who said it looked a lot better. It has actually been feeling better but after taking Bailey around by myself yesterday with all the carrying of her car seat and lifting the stroller, I am feeling a bit sore today. Wes says the incision looks better, so lets hope I don't have to deal with that anymore.

Hanging with Uncle Spidey and cousins Cade and Tessa

Bailey's cuteness

I know people will think we are lying but she is already showing us smiles! She probably doesn't know she is smiling but it is the cutest dang thing ever. Her facial expressions are the best, we are constantly staring at her and laughing at how silly she can be. Wes and her are so cute together and it puts a smile on my face every time I see them interacting.
Here are some pictures of our cute little Bailey in her 2nd week of life in this crazy world. I am already noticing her looking different and getting bigger!

And our favorite of the week...
We are looking forward to having Wes' parents in town this week!

Bailey's 1st week

We got home on Thursday afternoon which was a lot sooner than we thought since I had a c-section. Danny and Ali-Sun were there helping us at the hospital get ready to go. Ali-Sun had to leave to go home after being here for over a week. I am sooo grateful she was able to stay until Bailey was born, it truly meant a lot to me to have my sister there. When we got home, Danny came over to hang out with us for awhile before he had to drive back home, while we got settled in with Bailey. Pete of course has been over every day (except today) to see his favorite niece (his only niece..hehe). It has felt amazing to have my family around as well as the support of family who are too many miles away to be here right now. We are looking forward to having my parents come this week and Wes' parents next week.

So onto the how the baby is doing! Let me just say, this has been a week full of up's and downs, more downs than expected but ending on a wonderful up! Bailey's first night was VERY easy, not much crying and she slept for 3 hours at a time, we were so happy. I told Wes that this parenting stuff was pretty easy...boy did I speak waaaaay too soon because after that it went slowly down hill. Bailey started not sleeping at night in her bassinet, crying tons and not feeding very well. I am currently breast feeding and have been having the hardest time with it. During the days she was very happy and cried very little but feedings were horrible. I dreaded them, she fought them, I cried, and she screamed. I became very discouraged and upset with myself but told myself I wouldn't give up so soon, there had to be something I could do. It got to the point, she was not even sleeping at night at ALL! Last night she would only fall asleep on my chest, so Wes and I decided, after a 3 hour crying fit, that we would give in and let her sleep with me. She then slept for about 5 hours! We were very happy to finally get some sleep!

This morning was her first doctors appointment and she lost almost a pound :(. Hearing that was added to my already disappointment in myself. I tried hard not to cry and did pretty well until the pediatrician asked me to try and breast feed there. I did, with Bailey crying and fighting me, leaving me feeling upset, frustrated, and slightly embarrassed. The pediatrician was very good with me and my feelings and just told me she was going to make a call to the lactation consultant at the hospital since they offer free services if you delivered there. We headed over right away, back to the hospital and the same floor we lived on last week. It was fun seeing some of the nurses and them remembering us!

We went in and talked to a woman who is now one of my heroes! She asked me to try feeding and before we even started she stopped and told me what we needed to do. All we needed was a little ol' shield and viola...Bailey was a feeding champion without ANY tears or struggle! I don't think words can express how relieved and thankful I was, and still am. I no longer feel like a failure (I know, I know...I am a little hard on myself). She told us to up the fat in my diet so we get my fat content up in my milk and get her weight put back on. Now I can eat ice cream and not feel guilty!! Awesome! :). We came home and she been feeding just like she did at the hospital today. Wes and I are both all smiles today and very happy. I can now enjoy Bailey and not worry so much about what all I am doing wrong. She will be one week tomorrow so we have ended her 1st week in this crazy world on a very very happy and positive note. Let's hope I don't speak too soon and she keep us up ALL night.

Here are some pictures we have taken of her this week. Enjoy! Come back next week to see how her 2nd week of life goes.
